Preparing for a Bike Packing Adventure

We are quite new to Bike Packing and as we approach our Second adventure we are considering what we learnt from our First adventure.

The first question that we needed to ask ourselves when planning for the Bike Packing Adventure was; Are we camping or staying at an established accommodation? Knowing this helped us determine what we needed to pack.

For our First Bike Packing Adventure we took the “softer” approach by staying at Backpackers and B&B’s. With this decision we could pack way less.

Johann’s Tip: To make your Bike Packing Experience more enjoyable, pack light if you are staying at backpackers and B&B’s! It will make riding your bike a lot more manageable and fun. No, you don’t have to fill your bags just because there is space in them.

For our up coming 3 – Day “Soft” Bike Packing Adventure this is what my Packing list will look like, (excluding tools and bike spares).

  • 2 x cycling pants
  • 2 x cycling shirts
  • 2 x undershirts
  • 2 x pair of socks
  • 1 x Long sleeve riding shirt
  • 1 x rain jacket
  • 1 x long finger gloves
  • 1 x light long pants
  • 1 x T-shirt
  • 1 x Warm top (something that can pack small)
  • 1 x Slops
  • Charger for mobile and lights
  • Basic toiletries

The whole lot should be no more than 5-6 kg.

We look forward to seeing you at our next adventure.
